This collaborative project was initially created to address the problem of roadside wastes as well as illegal advertisement boards in Vadodara (India) as a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission). However, since the costs of production and risks of vandalism, were a hurdle, private real estate companies were a more approachable alternative.
Illegal advertisement boards placed in roads with high traffic posed a major health hazard to the commuters. Adverse weather conditions would cause them to fall and tear apart causing major concern amongst the civilians.
Most of these sites were also used as dumping grounds for garbage, which would accumulate over time and create sanitation problems for the nearby residences.
The current public trash bins posed disposal and maintenance problems. Along with this, their design failed to grab attention and often ended up being overlooked.
Based on this, the proposed solution was to have something that aligns with the Swachh Bharat Initiative, as well as targets the problem of illegal hoardings and public garbage disposal system.
